Abraham K. Munabi, M.D., Medical Director

Abraham K. Munabi, M.D., is medical director and founder of the Reproductive Science Institute of Suburban Philadelphia, P.C. He is both a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and board-certified gynecologist who is nationally and internationally known in the field of infertility and endocrinology. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the State University of New York at Buffalo between 1984-1987. In 1980, Dr. Munabi was awarded the Fogarty Scholarship to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where he completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the National Fellowship Program of the NIH, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and the National Naval Medical Center.


During the years 1984 to 1987, Dr. Munabi was awarded the prestigious Buswell Fellowship award while at State University of New York at Buffalo, where he successfully launched that institution's first IVF program. During this period he also became Chief of Reproductive Endocrinology at Children's Hospital in Buffalo. From 1987 to 1990, Dr. Munabi was an attending physician at Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. He then became an Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Temple University.

Dr. Munabi has written numerous scientific works and texts on the field of infertility and endocrinology, and he is active in a variety of medical societies including the Endocrine Society, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinologists, in addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

 

Rhonda Hearns, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Rhonda Hearns, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. is Board Certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Obstetrics and Gynecology.  She matriculated in chemistry at the University of Maryland and received her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1993.  Dr. Hearns completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.  She achieved her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. 

Dr. Hearns was an Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS).  She continued her research and clinical care in endometriosis and other infertility disorders while on staff at the NIH and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  She is currently on the staff at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Dr. Hearns was the Director of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore, Maryland where she supervised resident training in infertility and practiced as a Reproductive Endocrinologist.  Her most recent appointment was with Genetics and IVF Institute in Fairfax, Virginia as a Reproductive Endocrinologist where she practiced for four years.

Dr. Hearns is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the American Medical Association.  She has authored and co-authored many peer-reviewed publications on endometriosis and assisted reproductive technologies.

Dr. Hearns other interests include preventive medicine and physical fitness.  She is a Certified Health Counselor and is on the Governor’s Advisory Council for Physical Fitness in the state of Maryland.

 

Jacob Mayer, Ph.D.; H.C.L.D.

Jacob Mayer, Ph.D.; H.C.L.D., is the Laboratory Director for the Reproductive Science Institute of Suburban Philadelphia, P.C.  He earned a doctorate in Reproductive Physiology at Johns Hopkins University, where he also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology. 

Along with serving as RSI’s Lab Director, Dr. Mayer serves as the IVF Laboratory Director for the Jones Institute at West Penn Allegheny Health System, as well as director of the Embryology laboratories and Director of the Embryology at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

He has been a member of the Executive Council of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (SART) and the National Board for RESOLVE, a national infertility association. He is currently a Commissioner in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Reproductive Laboratory Accreditation Program.

Dr. Mayer’s research has been recognized throughout the medical community.  His research efforts received national attention in 1999 when he presented the results of an air purification study.  With the addition of air filters on IVF incubators, labs around the world have experienced a dramatic increase in pregnancy rates, with percentages rising from 30% to 52%.
